Young People on my heart always, I wrote this one for you
I need you to hear this like it’s coming from your future.
Not your parents.
Not your teachers.
Not your friends.
You. Just… older. Wiser. Tired of watching you waste time on things that don’t matter.
Right now, you’re surrounded by noise.
Everybody has an opinion.
Everybody is talking.
Everybody is telling you what’s “cool,” what matters, who you should be.
And here’s the truth no one is saying loud enough:
Most of those voices don’t know what they’re talking about.
Some of the people you’re listening to right now?
They’re not building anything.
They’re not going anywhere.
They’re just… loud.
And loud can be convincing.
But loud is not the same as right.
And popular is not the same as valuable.
Let me say something that might hit you:
Your life is being shaped by who you choose to listen to.
Every day.
- The friends you take advice from
- The influencers you watch
- The people you try to impress
- The voices you let live in your head
They are either building your future… or quietly destroying it.
And here’s the part I wish you understood sooner:
Time is not just passing—it’s being spent.
Every hour you give to:
- People who distract you
- Conversations that go nowhere
- Drama that doesn’t matter
- Opinions from people who haven’t done anything
That time is gone.
You don’t get it back later when you “finally get serious.”
I’m not telling you to cut everyone off.
I’m telling you to pay attention.
Ask yourself:
- Does this person push me forward or pull me back?
- Do they speak from experience… or just emotion?
- If I follow their advice, where will I end up?
Because that’s the real question:
Where does this voice lead me?
Some people are meant to be in your life.
Some people are just… around you.
And if you don’t learn the difference early, you will spend years:
- Chasing approval
- Following the wrong crowd
- Listening to people who disappear when things get real
Let me be direct with you:
You don’t have time to listen to everyone.
So choose carefully.
Listen to people who:
- Have actually done what you want to do
- Tell you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable
- Challenge you to grow, not stay the same
And learn to ignore:
- People who only talk but never act
- People who laugh at your goals
- People who want you to stay small because they are
I know it’s hard.
Because sometimes the wrong voices are:
- Your friends
- People you care about
- People you see every day
But your future doesn’t care how close you are to someone.
It only reflects the choices you make.
So hear me clearly:
Not everyone deserves access to your attention.
Your attention is your power.
Your focus is your direction.
Your time is your life.
If I could reach back and grab you by the shoulders, I’d say this:
Stop trying to be liked by people who aren’t going anywhere.
Start becoming someone who knows exactly where they’re going.
You don’t need more voices.
You need better ones.
And sometimes…
the most powerful thing you can do is turn the noise off completely and listen to yourself.
